What it is: The Jeep Cherokee compact SUV comes with four-cylinder or V-6 power and front-wheel go (by car) or a choice of three four-wheel-drive systems. All models keep a nine-speed mechanical transmission. While certain Cherokee models keep more off-road capability than the class norm, most versions fight with on-road-focused small SUVs same as the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Nissan Rogue.

The Latitude is now the base trim and comes with standard 17-inch aluminum wheels, foglights, high-intensity-discharge headlights and a backing camera. A new Latitude Plus trim level adds an 8.4-inch touchscreen multimedia system, satellite radio, keyless access, an eight-way power driver's seat and a family power outlet.

We had high hopes for the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. We’re very fond about it overall — within spite about the fact that after a year’s ownership about a 2014 model, we unanimously concluded that we wouldn’t buy another . Somehow, our affection for the Cherokee was strong enough that we were able to overlook or out on|have a view of} the engine replacement it mysteriously required; what we couldn’t overlook or out on|have a view of} was the bad behavior about its only transmission, a nine-speed automatic — especially when paired in the company of the base 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Despite numerous changes to its programming both within our early image including within subsequent image years, the transmission would hesitate also long when a downshift was called for.
